Karachi: Police have registered a counter-FIR against SSP Chaudhry Mohammad Aslam and his police party for the death of alleged Lyari gangster Sardar Abdul Rehman Baloch and his three associates in August last year. The case was registered following the order of the Sindh High Court (SHC) on the petition of Rehman Baloch’s widow, Farzana.
The complainant submitted that she was the widow of Shaheed Sardar Abdul Rehman Baloch, who was killed in [an alleged] fake encounter with the police on August 10, 2009, within jurisdiction of the Steel Town police station. She stated that after a business meeting on August 9, her husband and his three friends, Nazeer Baloch, Aurangzaib Baloch and Aqeel Ahmed Baloch, left for Karachi from Turbat in a black Corolla car. Aqeel Ahmed was a businessman and a citizen of Ukraine, Aurangzaib was the president of the Transport Association, and Nazeer Baloch was their business partner.
At about 5:30 p.m on August 9, Aurangzaib’s mobile phone contact with his family was cut off on the coastal highway before reaching Zero Point, she said. Moreover, Farzana’s own contact was also discontinued on the cell phone. Later, she said, news channels started relaying reports about the death of her husband and his three friends in the Steel Town area.
Farzana nominated SSP East Zone Mohammad Aslam Khan and his police party for killing her husband and three others, and alleged that Aslam Aslam had old enmity with her spouse for not giving him extortion. She said that SSP Aslam and his party kidnapped her spouse and his three friends on the Coastal highway while they were coming to Karachi and after entering in the territorial limits of Sindh they killed him brutally in fake encounter.
She prayed that case of murder and kidnapping for ransom be registered against Mohammad Aslam Khan and his police party and legal proceedings may be initiated against them.
The complainant submitted the defendant police party is notorious and known for “unlawful acts and deeds such as murder under due temptation and inducement of getting money and rewards.” She also said that she and her family members were under heavy pressure from the defendant party as their men were monitoring their movements; she apprehended danger to their lives. She also sought protection and demanded legal action against the defendants.
The Steel Town SHO, who appeared before the SHC registrar on court orders, received Farzana’s complaint and registered a case (no. 82/2010) against Chauhdry Aslam and the police party under Section 302 of the PPC.
